Install Argo CD

Apply the official manifests (or the Helm chart) into the argocd namespace.

$kubectl get pods -n argocd
$helm repo add argo https://argoproj.github.io/argo-helm

Log in

The first admin password is in a secret. Change it, then prefer SSO.

$argocd login localhost:8080 --username admin --insecure

Let op

Do not expose the Argo CD UI to the internet without SSO and TLS — it can change every application in the cluster.

Connect a repository

Public repositories work at once. Private ones need a deploy key or a token — read-only.

$ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -f argocd-deploy -N ''
$argocd repo add git@github.com:s0sta/shop-deploy.git --ssh-private-key-path argocd-deploy
$argocd repo list

Add argocd-deploy.pub in GitHub → repository → Settings → Deploy keys (read-only).

Use the CLI

Everything in the UI can be done with argocd.

$argocd app list
$argocd app get shop-prod
$argocd app diff shop-prod
$argocd app sync shop-prod
$argocd app history shop-prod
$argocd app rollback shop-prod 3
$argocd cluster list
