الهدف

Install the two machines you use in all the other labs. When you are done, both machines run RHEL 10, have the right names, an admin user, and can reach each other.

قبل أن تبدأ

A computer with at least 8 GB RAM and 60 GB free disk space.
A hypervisor (KVM, VirtualBox, VMware or Hyper-V) and the RHEL 10 DVD image (or CentOS Stream 10 / AlmaLinux 10).

المهام

Create the virtual machine server1: 2 CPUs, 4 GB RAM, a 20 GB system disk and a second empty 10 GB disk.
Install server1 with Server with GUI. Use automatic partitioning on the 20 GB disk only. Set the hostname server1.example.com.
Create the user student and make it an administrator. Set a root password.
Create server2: 1 CPU, 2 GB RAM, a 20 GB disk. Install it with Minimal Install and the hostname server2.example.com, the same user and root password.
Make sure both network cards are on and start at boot.
Take a snapshot of both machines called clean-install.

تحقّق من عملك

Run on each machine:

$cat /etc/redhat-release
$hostnamectl --static
$id student
$lsblk
$ip -br a
$ping -c 2 <address of the other machine>

The hostname is server1.example.com or server2.example.com.
id student shows the group wheel.
On server1, lsblk shows the second disk (often vdb or sdb) without partitions.
Each machine can ping the other one.

"Make this user administrator" in the installer adds the user to wheel.
If a network card is off after the install: nmcli con up NAME and nmcli con mod NAME connection.autoconnect yes.
The hostname can still be changed after the install with hostnamectl set-hostname.

Create the machines in your hypervisor as in tasks 1 and 4. Attach the RHEL DVD image as the boot device.
In the installer: Software Selection → Server with GUI (server1) or Minimal Install (server2). Installation Destination → only the 20 GB disk, Automatic. Network & Host Name → switch the card On, type the hostname, click Apply.
Root Password → set it. User Creation → student, tick Make this user administrator.
Begin Installation, then Reboot System. Log in and check:
```
$hostnamectl --static
$id student
```

If the card is not up:

#nmcli con up enp1s0
#nmcli con mod enp1s0 connection.autoconnect yes

Shut down both machines and take the snapshot in your hypervisor.
